Vertical Fragments brings together two elongated sculptural forms that rise like fragments of an imagined architecture. Cast in metal and developed through an intensely worked surface, the sculptures retain the marks, irregularities and density of the casting process – each layer creating a sense of accumulated time.
The raw, almost geological texture contrasts with the precision of the polished geometric bases, creating a dialogue between roughness and refinement, erosion and structure. The two forms differ in height and character, yet stand in quiet relationship to one another, evoking remnants of a larger, unknowable landscape.
The work is rooted in Ami Shekhar’s interest in material, texture and the transformation of metal into an expressive sculptural language.
